Flying Into Southern California and Want Wild and Unique Adventure?

If it is unique adventure you want you should first fly into San Diego airport. As far as airports go, San Diego airport is an award-winning airport. Once in San Diego, immediately go see the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built back in 1854, is quite a historical landmark and has some very nice views and photo opportunities! While in San Diego, there are a lot of very nice and upscale hotels to stay at. At this point, if you have time and your allocation will allow, you may want to plan a visit to Sea World San Diego to go visit Shamu and his friends.

The next stop for your unique vacation has got to be Catalina Island, which is listed by many as an absolute resort paradise that is about 20 miles off the California coast. For traveling out to this paradise island you certainly need to take the helicopter out to the island! Catalina Island has a gorgeous beach, crystal clear water and seals frolicking in the bay. Activities available comprise snorkeling, taking tours in glass bottomed boats, or taking one of the very astonishing tours inland. On these tours you will see bison, astonishing mountain skylines and fields of flowers in astonishing arrays.

Your adventure has begun!

Next on your unique vacation adventure you should come back to the coast via the boat ferry. Keep your camera ready on the boat also because dolphins have been known to follow the boat! After arriving back on land you should drive a short way up the coast and stay at the world-class Carlsbad Beach Resort. While at the resort be sure to visit the Carlsbad State Beach (this is a astonishing beach!) and be sure to visit the Carlsbad Flower Fields as well, which are right next door. These astonishing flower fields are very, very colorful and cover more than fifty acres!

Then (you wanted adventure, right?) drive inland from the coast to Palm Springs, which will be about two hours away. Now, for this part of your trip, be sure to call ahead of time to the hot air balloon fellowships that serve the Temecula wine country area (this is right on the way to Palm Springs). By timing this part of your trip with the hot air balloon enterprise in the area you should will be able to see the hot air balloons filling the sky as you drive towards Palm Springs!

Once you arrive at Palm Springs be sure and take in as much of the desert and mountain scenery you can, for there are many photo opportunities in practically every area of this city!

In Palm Springs there are numerous opportunities to shop, dine or golf in what is aptly described as a 'desert oasis'. If you have never had the opportunity of hitting the golf ball while having palm trees, desert lakes and a two thousand foot mountain as your backdrop, this is the place where you can touch this!

Then, after visiting the city of Palm Springs, be sure and save time to go and visit the Palm Springs Tram. At the tram middle point on the ground the temperature can certainly be ninety degrees or so, while at the top of the tram there can be snow waiting for you when you get off the tram. When you are at the top of the tram be sure and plan for a nice meal at the restaurant which is placed in the visitors town at the peak of the tram ride. Also, be sure to bring your camera because when you look out from the top towards the city of Palm Springs you are so high up in the air that the city of Palm Springs looks to be only about the size of a quarter!

Next on the list (unique trip, remember?) drive inland for about one more hour to the national park called Joshua Tree, which you will find right next to the city of Twenty Nine Palms. There are caves there in the huge park, some of which certainly have Indian hieroglyphics etched into the cave walls.

While at Joshua Tree be sure and take the time to hike to the top of a peak there called Ryan's Peak. Unless you have seen whole desert views from five thousand feet high already, at the top of Ryan's peak you may see views up there that could certainly 'take your breath away'!

Now, for the final part of your very wild and unique vacation, be sure and drive very gently (at dusk) on your way out of Joshua Tree park. The whole desert sky will often turn an orange and red color as the sun goes down behind you, over the wild Joshua trees and cactus of the park. Keep your camera ready for this part also because (just like in the movies) an actual tumbleweed might roll over the road behind you, while you are driving on your way out of the park.
