Touring the Wine Country
California wine tours can be equated to touring the vineyards of Greece or Italy, at the very least. While we may not have the inheritance of thousands of years to institution that these foreign countries have, areas like Napa Valley are lusciously grand for vineyards. Napa Valley is just one of many areas where you can plan a California wine tour, however, and none should be disregarded.
Touring the Wine Country
Sonoma County produces its own yummy wines, and varied areas near the Pacific coast have immense vineyards which offer tours. The central coastal area of beautiful Cali has vineywards in areas like Paso Robles, Monterey, Salinas, Livermore, Santa Cruz, and Santa Barbara. The central valleys should also not be overlooked, and comprise the Lodi, Clarksburg, and Madera areas.
The Northern Coast brings us Lake Couty, with Southern California bringing us vineyards in the San Diego and Temecula area. The Sierra Foothills are able to brag about fabulous wines in Placer County, El Dorado, Amador, and Nevada County.
There is not a particular area that reigns supreme over all others, though there are some areas (like Sonoma County and Napa Valley) which bring us more vineyards in a smaller area of space. Month long, or even three month long, vacations could certainly be planned colse to visiting the major vineyards of beautiful California. Beyond the vineyards themselves, most of these areas have luxury hotels and resorts, world class restaurants, and a wide array of other activities for times when you may not me in the mood for wine.
